Acciona has announced the renewal of its renewable energy supply contract with Fnac Portugal.

Fnac Portugal, a subsidiary of French technology and retail group Fnac, will purchase 13GWh of certified renewable electricity annually. This will power the company’s 46 retail stores in Portugal.

Fnac Portugal general services director Carlos Alves said: “By working alongside Acciona, we will be able to drastically mitigate the carbon footprint of our stores and logistics operations.

“All the while, we will be strengthening our governance policy and adding to our sustainability strategy, in collaboration with our customers and partners. This agreement ensures continuity in Fnac Portugal’s energy efficiency and decarbonisation efforts.”

The contract will enable Fnac Portugal to offset 3,800t of carbon emissions annually.

Entidade Emissora de Garantias de Origem certified the energy supply with 100% Renewable Guarantees of Origin. The certifier is a platform of Portugal’s electricity group Rede Elétrica Nacional.

Acciona and Fnac Portugal have worked together through energy generation and supply agreements since 2019.

Acciona Portugal Country Sales manager Aprígio Guimarães said: “The collaboration between Acciona and Fnac Portugal is a clear success, leading to the adoption of sustainability best practices through the supply of renewably generated energy.

“The new contract signed for the 2021/2022 period combines both competitive conditions and a significant contribution to our client’s climate objectives.”

An Acciona statement said this contract follows agreements with other Portugal clients, including Coca-Cola, STCP, Sonae Arauco, Makro, Indorama and Danone.
