The transportation and installation operations are scheduled to begin in March 2028 and are expected to last around 150 days.

Cadeler anticipates revenue from this contract to be between €70m and €80m.

The announcement follows Cadeler’s September 2024 disclosure of a reservation agreement securing two offshore wind projects in the region.

Cadeler said its collaboration with SRE marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to advance offshore wind projects in the Asia-Pacific region, supported by its local office in Taipei.

Located 18 to 20km off the coast of Miaoli County, Formosa 4 will cover an area of 58 km2, with turbines to be installed at water depths of 57 to 64 metres.

Once completed, the Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm will generate 495 megawatts of clean energy, significantly contributing to Taiwan’s green energy supply.

Cadeler CEO Mikkel Gleerup said: “This milestone project further anchors Cadeler’s strategic presence in the Asia-Pacific region. With the support of our team based in Taipei, we are steadily building up our APAC presence and pipeline, with two vessels currently operating contracts in the region.

“With an M-class vessel, we are bringing best-in-class technology to Taiwan’s shores, building a bridge between continents and the infrastructure for a cleaner tomorrow.”

Earlier this month, SRE Group awarded a 15-year service operations vessel (SOV) contract to Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) to support the operations and maintenance of its asset fleet, starting with Formosa 4.

The partnership with DFO involves providing a custom-built, Taiwan-flagged SOV to support Formosa 4 from its construction phase.

The vessel, designed to withstand Taiwan’s unique maritime conditions, will be constructed to meet the highest European standards, aligning with SRE’s operational demands.

Earlier in May, SRE increased its stake in the Formosa 2 offshore wind farm by 26%, securing a majority interest of 51%.
