Italian multinational renewable energy company Enel Green Power (EGP) has been contracted to build five renewable power stations in Colombia.

The three windfarms and two solar parks involved in the deal are part of the 740GWh contract that was awarded to EGP, which was issued by the Colombian Government.

In total, the power stations will have the capacity to generate 2,027,533kWh of energy per day that will be supplied to the country’s grid network from 2022.

The three windfarms secured in the tender are Windpeshi, Tumawind and Chemesky, which are located in the La Guajira region. The windfarms will have a combined capacity of 508MW and are expected to generate 2,340GWh of energy annually over the next 20 years.

“For the first time, renewable power projects will ensure that the Colombian energy system will be reliable starting from 2022.”

Out of the three windfarms, Windpeshi plant is the most advanced project to be built by Enel.

Meanwhile the two solar parks built by EGP are La Loma and El Paso. Located in the Cesar region, the La Loma solar project has an installed capacity of 173.2MW and is expected to generate 420.5GWh over a period of 20 years.

With a capacity of 86.2MW, the power generated by the El Paso solar park will be marketed by Enel Group’s Colombian power supply subsidiary Enel-Emgesa. El Paso has the potential to supply 236,995kWh per day to Colombia’s grid for a period of ten years.

EGP tweeted: “For the first time, renewable power projects will ensure that the Colombian energy system will be reliable starting from 2022.”
