German utility company E.ON has officially opened its 201MW windfarm in Kenedy County, Texas. Known as Stella windfarm, it will be equipped with 67 wind turbines supplied by Nordex with a 3MW capacity each.

E.ON North America chief operating officer Silvia Ortin said: “In addition to creating high-paying local jobs, the Stella windfarm will generate more than $25 million in local community benefits over the life of the project in the Kenedy County area.

“This additional revenue will support essential county services and local schools.”

E.ON North America also tweeted: “We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of its Stella windfarm, a 201 megawatt (MW) project, located in Kenedy County, Texas, today! Stella marks our 17th windfarm in Texas and 23rd overall.”

During the construction period, the project created more than 300 employment opportunities in the region and local contractors have spent $12m for purchasing local products and services.

With its focus on energy networks, customer solutions and renewables, E.ON has invested more than $12bn and operates nearly 5.4GW of renewable capacity worldwide.
