A total of 22 people have been confirmed as killed in an explosion at a coal-fired power plant in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The explosion was followed by a fire at the site, which is located at the Unchahar plant in Raebareli.

Rescue operations were carried out in coordination with the local district administration. The BBC reported that at least 22 people were killed and as many as 100 were injured.
Around 80 people were sent to the company hospital, while the seriously injured were referred to nearby medical facilities.
The owner of the 500MW boiler unit NTPC said in a statement: “In NTPC Unchahar, Unit No 6 at around 15:30 on 1 November 2017, there was sudden abnormal sound at 20t elevation and there was opening in corner number two from which hot flue gases and steam escaped affecting the people working around the area.”
The company has begun an investigation at the plant, which has been operating for almost 30 years.
