Hitachi Energy has provided its 69kV HiDry dry-type transformers to an offshore wind power project built by China Huaneng Group.
The project is situated at the L Site in the northern part of the Shandong Peninsula, eastern China. The site is located 70km from shore with depths exceeding 50m.
It has a total installed capacity of 504MW, with plans to feature 42 units of high-capacity 12MW wind turbines.
Envision Energy, the project’s wind turbine supplier, will receive Hitachi Energy’s HiDry offshore wind dry-type transformers for the project.
These units feature a fully oil-free design, mitigating risks associated with oil leakage and fire hazards. Their compact design is tailored for turbine spaces while being resistant to vibrations and corrosion.
The innovative nature of these transformers lies in the design, which requires no oil-related maintenance, reducing upkeep expenses.

By GlobalDataThe 69kV HiDry offshore dry-type transformer represents a cutting-edge solution developed by Hitachi Energy, providing a dry technology alternative to traditional liquid-immersed transformers.
This innovation addresses the increasing demand for 66kV offshore wind farms in China, which enables the use of larger turbines, improves power collection efficiency and yields significant cost savings.
Hitachi Energy transformers business unit Greater China head senior vice-president Zhang Jianhua stated: “As an important approach to achieving carbon neutrality goals, offshore wind power has seen rapid development in recent years in China, leading globally both in installation scale and innovation, we are very pleased to support the stable operation of large-capacity, high-power offshore wind turbines through continuous innovation of transformers, and help enhance the environmental value of offshore wind power projects with safe and sustainable solutions.
“We will continue to work closely with customers and partners, using innovative technologies to tackle challenges during the large-scale development of offshore wind power, and contribute to China’s energy transition.”
