Kajoni will identify project sites of at least 20 hectares and procure the necessary licensing to achieve ready-to-build status.

Once a project begins construction, it will be wholly owned by Lightsource bp.

Lightsource bp Germany business development head Stephan Jeznita commented: “Kajoni is deeply rooted in Lower Saxony, a region with very high potential for solar power.

“We are ambitious in growing the German market, and local partners like Kajoni are an ideal addition to our own greenfield development operations across Germany.”

Lightsource bp has been expanding its operations in Europe in recent years. Last month, it began commercial operation at its 40MW solar project in Poland, where the company has been present since 2020.

The UK solar developer entered the German energy market in 2023 to become the leading solar developer in the country and commit to the growth and development of renewable energy in the region.

Germany aims to provide 80% of its electricity demand from solar and other renewable energy sources by 2030.

However, according to Power Technology’s parent company GlobalData, electricity generated from fossil fuels remains in the lead in Germany, making up 48.82% of total electricity generation last year.

Wind accounted for the second largest share of electricity generation at 23.65% while solar came in third with 13.72%.
