Mitsubishi Power, a division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has secured a contract to supply two M701JAC gas turbines to the O Mon 4 Power Plant in Vietnam.
This marks the first deployment of these turbines in the country.

The O Mon 4 plant, with a designed capacity of 1,155MW, is expected to play a significant role in supporting Vietnam’s energy transition goals.
The contract, signed in August 2025, is a collaboration with Doosan Enerbility and includes the supply of auxiliary equipment.
The M701JAC gas turbines are considered to be efficient large-frame turbines, with more than 64% combined cycle efficiency and over three million operational hours of reliability, stated Mitsubishi Power.
Developed by the Vietnam National Industry-Energy Group (Petrovietnam), the O Mon 4 plant’s engineering, procurement, and construction contract was awarded to a consortium comprising South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility and Vietnam’s Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2.

By GlobalDataThe ground-breaking ceremony, held in late August in Can Tho, South Vietnam, signalled the commencement of construction, with completion set for 2028.
Upon completion, O Mon 4 is expected to supply stable electricity to the Mekong Delta, enhancing Petrovietnam’s installed capacity to over 9.3GW, which represents around 10% of Vietnam’s national power system.
The plant is a component of the Block B – O Mon gas-to-power project chain, which is a national priority aimed at bolstering Vietnam’s energy security.
Mitsubishi Power’s involvement with O Mon 4 underscores its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), which advocates for an energy mix diversification, reduced coal dependency, and an increase in natural gas and renewable energy utilisation.
The project aligns with Vietnam’s ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Recently, Mitsubishi Power obtained a contract for a gas turbine combined cycle power plant at the Tung Hsiao Power Plant in Taiwan, operated by Taiwan Power Company.
With a total capacity of 2.8GW, the project will be executed with CTCI Corporation, an engineering and construction company based in Taiwan.
