Swiss company ABB has partnered with global engineering and construction firm Fluor to build new electrical substations.

The new partnership will provide a platform for both companies to execute large turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) electrical substation projects.

Substations play a major role for the efficient supply and distribution of electricity, control and protection of power flows, connecting of power stations to the grid, and linking of transmission and distribution networks.

In this new partnership, ABB will be providing support with its expertise in power transmission and distribution, while Fluor will offer its capability and experience in delivering large EPC projects.

ABB is known for its air-insulated, gas-insulated, and hybrid substations, as well as its substations, which offer efficient transmission and distribution of electricity with the least environmental impact.

Last month, the company sold its global high-voltage cable system business to NKT Cables in a deal worth about $934m.
