Power and automation technology group ABB has secured orders worth $26m from the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO) to extend and upgrade four existing transmission substations in Ethiopia.

The three 400kV/230kV and one 230kV/132kV/15kV air-insulated switchgear substations of capacities are located in the greater Addis Ababa area.

ABB is responsible for the design, engineering, supply, and erection and commissioning of the substations, including civil works.

The project, part of EEPCO’s initiative to improve their electricity transmission system is expected to be completed by 2013.

The African Development Fund has provided financing for the project.
