Spain-based Acciona has secured a €77m contract from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to build a 46.8MW thermal power plant in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Under the contract, Acciona will design, procure, build and oversee the start of operations of the Baja California Sur V power plant.

To be located in La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur state, the plant is expected to be operational in June 2016.
The Baja California Sur V power plant will burn residual fuel oil to produce electricity through internal combustion motors.
The technology will optimise the crude oil cycle and minimise its environmental impact in the region.
Acciona said that it will install an advanced nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions reduction system to mitigate the power plant’s impact on the environment.

Earlier, Acciona designed and built Phase III that entered into operation in 2012.
Presently, the company has been awarded the contract for an additional 46.8MW project in Phase V.
The power generated from the latest plant will be supplied to La Paz and nearby tourist resorts.
