Alstom Grid has secured three high-voltage direct current (HVDC) contracts, carrying a total value of approximately €800m.
The firm has received the contracts from South Korea, India and Atlantic Canada.

In South Korea, the company, through its joint venture KEPCO-Alstom Power Electronics Systems (KAPES), has received a contract for an HVDC Line Commutated Converter (LCC) project.
For this project, the company will design and supply equipment for an energy corridor that runs 33km in the Seoul region.
The ±500kV HVDC link, with a power capacity of 1.5GW, will transmit power generated by the Dangjin power facility, which is located in the west of South Korea, to the Pyeongtaek area, which lies to the east of Dangjin.
In India, Alstom won a contract for the second phase of the ±800kV 3000 MW Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL).

By GlobalDataIn 2012, the company won the contract in the first phase of the project, which connects Champa to Kurukshetra.
Following the two contracts, Alstom’s advanced UHVDC system will manage a power transfer of 6,000MW at ±800kV DC from the generation centre in central region to the load centre in the northern part of the country.
In Canada, the company was awarded a ±350kV bi-pole HVDC (LCC) contract by Nalcor Energy.
As per the terms of this contract, Alstom will design, supply, and install a point-to-point HVDC solution for the Labrador-Island Transmission Link.
A part of the Nalcor Energy’s Lower Churchill Project, the transmission link will run around 1,100km – from Muskrat Falls near Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador to Soldiers Pond, Newfound.
This project will transmit hydropower from the 824MW Muskrat Falls Project to the island of Newfoundland.
Of the total value of €800m, approximately 50% of this amount was booked in the first quarter of 2014 while the remaining 50% will be done in the second quarter.
