Amkor Technology has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to acquire Toshiba Electronics Malaysia (TEM) for an undisclosed sum.

The MoU also includes a license to Amkor for certain related intellectual property rights.

Toshiba and Amkor plan to complete the transaction by early January 2012, subject to completion of certain regulatory approvals.

TEM is the Toshiba’s arm located in Malaysia.

Post sale, Toshiba will continue to subcontract power semiconductor assembly and test to TEM, which is the company’s semiconductor assembly arm.
