A new Predix software development kit (SDK) has already been developed under the partnership for the iOS mobile operating system.

Set to be released on 26 October, the new Predix SDK will allow the software developers to create their own industrial IoT apps.

Using these apps, industrial operators are expected to obtain additional insight and visibility regarding the performance of their equipment and operations right from their iPhone or iPad.

The industrial apps are also expected to bridge the information gap faster, thereby increasing cost savings and reducing unplanned downtime.

In addition, GE, along with Apple, is developing apps for both internal use and its customers with an aim to provide its employees with powerful tools to improve their jobs and help perform operations more efficiently.

Several customers, including US-based energy company Exelon, have already deployed GE’s Asset Performance Management (APM) Cases app to increase machine reliability and availability, as well as reduce maintenance costs and operations risks.

GE also plans to standardise its business on iPhone and iPad for mobile devices, while Apple expects to promote GE’s Predix as the industrial IoT analytics platform of choice to its customers and developers.
