India-based company Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has begun commercial operation of its second 800MW supercritical unit at 2x800MW Yeramarus Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Karnataka, India.

Located in the Raichur district, the coal-based facility is owned and operated by Raichur Power (RPCL). BHEL and Karnataka Power (KPCL) are the main equity partners.

Commencement of commercial operation of the Yeramarus TPS units marks BHEL's contribution as a co-developer in the area of power generation.

Under the deal, BHEL carried out the complete designing, engineering, production, delivery, erection, and commissioning of the new and advanced Yeramarus supercritical power project on a turnkey basis.

The company has also delivered the entire range of critical equipment, including turbines and generators, electricals, boilers, and key packages of balance-of-plant, as well as carrying out associated civil works for the project.

The major equipment for the Yeramarus TPS has been manufactured by the company at its Trichy, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Ranipet, Haridwar, Jhansi, Thirumayam, and Bengaluru facilities.
