Royal Boskalis Westminster has secured an Offshore Balance of Plant contract worth more than €100m from Swedish power company Vattenfall for the construction of 92.4MW Aberdeen Offshore Windfarm in Scotland.

The new contract includes the supply of every offshore element of the farm, excluding delivery of the turbines.

Work involves the design, procurement, fabrication, delivery, transportation, and implementation of eleven suction bucket jacket foundations and scour protection.

The combination of these jacket foundations with such large wind turbines will be the first of its kind and will use high-capacity 66kV power cables.

Through its subsidiary VBMS, Boskalis Westminster will also be responsible for the procurement, delivery, transportation, and deployment of 66kV inter array and export cables. The Dutch construction company company will also have to provide a turbine transportation and installation vessel.

Work on the new Aberdeen Offshore Windfarm is expected to begin in September next year, and completed in Q2, 2018.
