Capital Power has commissioned the 270MW K2 wind power facility in Ontario, Canada, along with partners Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy Group.
The facility, which is located in the township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (ACW) in southwestern Ontario, is one of the largest wind power projects in Canada.

Pattern Energy CEO Mike Garland said: "Along with Samsung and Capital Power, we are proud to develop one of the largest wind facilities in Canada, which was built using local workers and local materials, including turbine blades and towers manufactured in Ontario.
"K2 Wind is the result of Ontario’s commitment to green energy, providing the province with a strong new addition to its renewable energy fleet."
It is equipped with 140 wind turbines from Siemens, with each having a generation capacity of 2.3MW.
Construction period for the facility was approximately 18 months.

By GlobalDataThe facility has the capacity to produce renewable energy for 100,000 households. It will supply power to Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Developers for the project have sourced components for the facility from Ontario itself.
While the 700 turbine tower sections were manufactured in Windsor at CS Wind, 420 installed turbine blades for the facility were manufactured at Siemen’s facility in Tillsonburg.
The project is a third renewable energy development for Samsung under its Green Energy Investment Agreement with the Ontario Government.
Samsung C&T vice-president Steve Cho said: "K2 Wind created an average of 300 jobs during construction, with a peak of 500 workers."
Capital Power president and CEO Brian Vaasjo said: "The addition of K2 Wind adds another 90 MW of owned wind capacity to our growing renewable energy portfolio."
