Alstom has received a contract from Con Edison to provide demand response management system (DRMS), as part of a Department of Energy Smart Grid Demonstration Project.
Con Edison is responsible to provide electric service to 3.3 million customers in New York City and Westchester County, New York, US.

Under the contract, Alstom will deliver DRMS, which is based on e-terraDRBizNet 3.0 technology, to enable Con Edison to efficiently use consumer loads to manage energy supply and demands, with incentives offered to electricity customers to lessen energy consumption during periods of peak distribution system demand.
Con Edison project manager Andre Wellington said that the Alstom-developed DRMS will help streamline Con Edison’s business processes, and efficiently manage and optimise its growing demand response portfolio.
"Con Edison needed a robust, open, comprehensive and scalable solution to manage our growing demand response activities and data within a single platform," Wellington said.
Capable of integrating residential, commercial and industrial demand response programs and device technologies, the DRMS can be used from small pilot deployments, initial automated demand response programmes, to large industrial-grade DRMS needs to address increasing demand.

Naggar said, "Today, our e-terraDRBizNet solution enables more than 10,000 MW of demand response, representing over one million end-use residential customers and over 10,000 commercial and industrial customers.
"We welcome Con Edison to our expanding and diverse customer base of utilities, aggregators and Regional Transmission Operators around the world."
