Deepwater Wind plans to begin work on the first offshore wind farm off the US state of Rhode Island by 2014.

The 30MW Block Island project will be built at an estimated cost of $205m.

The energy generated by the project will accommodate the power needs of 10,000 homes in Rhode Island.

Currently, the developer is also planning three 1,000MW projects off the Atlantic coast, reports Reuters.
