Enel Green Power Chile (EGPC) has begun operations at Sierra Gorda windfarm, which is located 60km from the city of Calama in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.
With an installed capacity of 112MW, Sierra Gorda is expected to generate more than 295GWh each year once fully operational.

This equates to the power consumption needs of around 130,000 Chilean households every year and avoids the emission of more than 140,000t of CO².
Nearly $215m was invested by the company in the construction of Sierra Gorda windfarm, which was in line with the investment targets outlined in the company’s existing strategic plan. The company used its own resources to finance the project, which is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).
The farm will generate energy to be delivered to the transmission network of Chile’s northern region, Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING).
Enel operates a portfolio of plants in the country, which have a combined installed capacity of more than 1.1GW. Of this, 564MW comes from windpower, 493MW from PV solar, and 92MW from hydropower.
