Energy business management firm Engie North America and Axium Infrastructure have been awarded a $1.165bn comprehensive energy management contract by the Ohio State University.
Under the 50-year concession, the two companies will help address the university’s energy sustainability goals for its 485-building campus in Columbus, Ohio.

This comprehensive energy management project will see construction of a new Energy Advancement and Innovation Centre for research and commercialisation.
Engie's North America chief executive officer (CEO) Frank Demaille said: “We’re excited for the opportunity to deploy our experience in energy efficiency, production, procurement, and commodity risk management to support Ohio State in its quest to become an international leader in sustainability while providing new resources to enhance its academic mission.
“With innovation, performance, and safety underpinning all of our endeavours, we are eager to work with the Ohio State utility team and with faculty, staff, and students on new energy research and technology commercialisation through a state-of-the-art Energy Advancement and Innovation Centre that we will build.”
The new centre will offer a living laboratory for students, alumni, faculty, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and Engie researchers to work together on the development of advanced technologies and services in areas, such as renewable energy, smart energy systems, and green mobility.

By GlobalDataBeing Engie’s first research facility in North America, the Energy Advancement and Innovation Centre will be connected to the company’s research and industry network worldwide.
As part of project, Engie and Axium will also operate and optimise the Ohio State University’s utility system.
In addition, the firms will provide energy conservation management services, thereby leveraging the university’s existing system and developing future capital improvement projects to enhance its energy efficiency by 25% within ten years.
