Enviva has signed an agreement with Dominion Virginia Power to supply biomass fuel to two power facilities in south-east Virginia, US.

Earlier this year, Dominion announced plans to convert three 63MW coal-burning peaking plants to 50MW continuous power plants using biomass. Enviva will supply two of these plants, located in Southampton and Hopewell.

Enviva chairman and CEO John Keppler said Enviva is excited to be a key part of Dominion’s decision to be among the first US utilities to employ the power of biomass by benefiting customers, economy and the environment.

Dominion’s application to convert the power stations is pending before the Virginia State Corporation Commission.
