GE Power India has secured a $40m contract from Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) to supply components and services for supercritical steam generator island packages for thermal projects in Tamil Nadu, India.
The firm will supply components for the 2 x 800MW Uppur coal-based thermal power project and the 1 x 800MW North Chennai Supercritical coal-based project, stage III.

The addition, 2,400MW of power generated from these projects will boost the current approximate 13GW installed power generation capacity of Tamil Nadu, which is expected to provide electricity for around 7 million homes in the state.
Under the contract, GE Power India will supply pressure boiler parts and provide technical advisors during installation and commission. The components to be supplied will be developed in GE’s manufacturing plant in Durgapur, West Bengal.
