GE has secured contracts worth $800m in an auction conducted by the Brazil’s National Electric Power Agency to supply wind and gas turbines for Brazilian projects.

Under the contracts, GE will supply 7FA gas turbine combined-cycle technology for more than 1GW of projects.

The company has also agreed to supply about 378MW of its 1.6MW wind turbines.

Projects supplied with GE wind and gas turbines are scheduled to commence commercial operations by 2014.

The A-3 and Reserve energy auctions, which took place in August, will supply 51 energy projects in Brazil with a total gross capacity of 3.9GW.

GE won all of the natural gas power generation commitments at the auction.
