Engineering, technical and business services organisation Lloyd's Register has awarded its first Technology Qualification certificate to Finnish ocean energy technology developer AW-Energy.
The company recieved the certificate for its WaveRoller ocean energy converting solution, which is deployed on the seabed and equipped with an oscillating panel.

AW-Energy Board's chairman Per Langer said: "This has been very challenging but valuable process and I am very excited to announce that WaveRoller has been awarded the Technology Qualification certificate. It is the first ocean energy converter to reach this level of validation by Lloyd's Register."
Wave energy is a large untapped renewable resource available worldwide, which is predictable and reliable.
Denmark's British Ambassador Vivien Life said: “The WaveRoller technology not only offers a novel and previously untapped source of renewable energy, it has minimal visual impact and creates an artificial basis for reef ecosystems to flourish.
“Companies like AW-Energy are the key players in this new era of energy innovation, which increasingly focuses on clean technology solutions for global sustainability challenges.”
