The Mexican Government has awarded more than 2GW of clean power projects under the country’s first electricity auction.
The auction is in line with the government’s plan to invest $14bn to add renewable power capacity of 6GW between 2015 and 2018.

Enel Green Power (EGP), SunPower, Alten, Acciona and Recurrent Energy have been named as the preferred bidders to build 2,085MWh of renewable energy projects in the country, Bloomberg reported.
Of the total contracted clean power capacity, 1,691MW will come from solar resources and the remaining 394MW will be generated from wind.
EGP is the biggest winner and has been selected to build three solar projects totalling 1GW at a cost of around $1bn.
It has been contracted to build Villanueva and Villanueva 3 projects in the state of Coahuila, north of Mexico, which will have a combined installed capacity of 754MW.

By GlobalDataEGP will also build 238MW Don José PV solar project in the state of Guanajuato.
When operational in 2018, the three solar projects will together generate more than 2TWh of clean energy per annum.
EGP CEO Francesco Venturini said: "Mexico is a pivotal market for all serious players in this field due to its huge potential in clean energy and stable regulatory framework."
Acciona has been awarded a contract to build a 168MW windfarm in the state of Tamaulipas.
The proposed El Cortijo windpower project, comprising 56 units of 3MW Acciona Windpower turbines, will enter service in 2018.
Acciona CEO Rafael Mateo said: "The competition was strong and this will enable us to consolidate our leadership in the Mexican windpower sector."
