Dutch power company Eneco and Belgian renewable energy producer Elicio each own a 50% stake in the wind farm.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind CEO Jens Tommerup said: "MHI Vestas has a strong partnership with Eneco, who we have worked with to deliver the 129MW Eneco Luchterduinen and 120MW Princess Amalia projects in the Netherlands, while we look forward to building our relationship with Elicio going forwards.

"Being selected as the preferred supplier for the Norther project underlines the customers’ confidence in the V164-8.0 MW and of MHI Vestas, and represents a big step forwards in our partnership."

The wind farm is owned by Norther and located in the Belgian North Sea, approximately 22km off the coast of Zeebrugge.

The clean electricity generated will be enough to power nearly 370,000 Belgian households.

The project will help Belgium to achieve its target of generating 13% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020.

MHI Vestas also received a 330MW turbine supply order from Dong Energy in December last year.

Under the contract, the company will supply 40 units of its V164-8.0 MW turbines for the Walney Extension West project in the UK.
