Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has won a contract from Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) to supply a M501J gas turbine for the Chouteau power station in Oklahoma, US.

This is the first order in the US for a J-Series gas turbine. Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, MHI’s wholly-owned subsidiary for power systems business in the US, will supply the core component for the Chouteau power station.
The components to be supplied for the 495MW gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power station include an M501J gas turbine, an SRT-50 steam turbine and a generator.
Savannah Machinery Works, MHI’s manufacturing base in the US, will manufacture the gas turbine for the Chouteau power station. Mitsubishi Electric will supply the generator.
In addition to this, a separate long-term service agreement is likely to be signed by the two companies for the Chouteau plant. This agreement includes maintenance of the plant, replacement parts supply and remote monitoring after the plant operation commencement.

By GlobalDataThe Chouteau GTCC plant, which will begin operations in March 2014, will help GRDA meet new emissions regulations by reducing its dependence on coal-fired power generation.
MHI had developed the J-Series gas turbine in 2009 by incorporating its proprietary technologies. With the latest supply order from GRDA, MHI has supplied a total of 28 J-Series gas turbines.
Of this 28, nine J-Series gas turbines are in currently in operation. These nine turbines’ accumulated operation has already exceeded 28,000 hours.
