US-based Mortenson Construction has been selected by MidAmerican Energy Company to build its 170MW Beaver Creek wind farm in Greene and Boone counties near Grand Junction, Iowa.
Part of MidAmerican Energy’s Wind XI expansion project, the Beaver Creek farm is expected to bring 2,000MW of new wind power generation capacity in Iowa.

The Beaver Creek wind farm will feature 85 Vestas turbines, which are expected to be delivered within this month and are set to be operational by December 2017.
Around 150 temporary jobs are anticipated to be created during the ongoing construction phase.
Mortenson Construction Wind Energy Group vice-president and general manager Tim Maag said: “It was in Iowa where we entered the wind energy market in 1995 by erecting our first turbine near Adair.”
So far, the company has developed 55% of wind power facilities in Iowa.

By GlobalDataApart from the Beaver Creek project, MidAmerican Energy Company is involved in the development of the Prairie wind farm project in Mahaska County, Iowa, US.
Set to be completed by the end of this year, the farm will be equipped with 84 turbines and able to generate 168MW of energy.
When completed, the project will also be part of MidAmerican Energy’s Wind XI project.
