PT PLN Indonesia has awarded a $29m (€21.1m) contract to India-based Crompton Greaves (CG) to supply extra high voltage transformers for the Indonesian electricity transmission network.

As part of the contract, CG will supply 500kV, 275kV and 150kV power transformers that will be installed across PT PLN’s transmission network in Java and the Sumatra islands.

The transformers will be manufactured at CG’s factory located in Bogor, Indonesia. The facility is equipped to design, manufacture and test transformers up to 550kV class.

The compact design of CG’s power transformers will maximise space utility and achieve optimum energy efficiency through low levels of losses, the company claims.

CG said that its transformers are mainly preferred for strengthening transmission networks because of its reduced degree of noise and partial discharge.

CG CEO and managing director Laurent Demortier said, "I would like to thank PT PLN Indonesia for placing its continued trust in CG’s energy products and technological expertise in the Ultra High Voltage (UHV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) segments.
