US-based company Raytheon has entered a strategic alliance with electrical engineering firm Utilidata to enable power grids to detect, defend against and respond to cyber threats.
The service will combine Utilidata's experience in the use of real-time data collected from the electrical grid to detect and respond to cyber-attacks, along with the experience of Raytheon in preventing cyber threat hunting, automation and managed security services.

Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services Business president Dave Wajsgras said: “With this alliance, Raytheon will expand our presence in the critical infrastructure market by delivering next-generation, defence-grade cybersecurity capabilities to power utilities.”
Since the early 2000s, power utility companies have worked on enhancing the efficiency of the power distribution system and making them smarter and more connected. In the process, the companies make power grids vulnerable to several cyber-attacks.
Utilidata chairman and CEO Scott DePasquale said: “Power utilities face unique challenges that make planning and response to cyber-attacks more difficult.
“With more and more devices and systems connected to the internet, and all of them needing electrical power, these challenges are increasing exponentially. This new alliance will help define the future of cybersecurity in the power utilities sector.”

By GlobalDataUtilidata and Raytheon will offer a wide range of services, such as post-attack forensics analysis, cyber monitoring, as well as short and long-term strategic capabilities in order to reduce chances of risks and improve cybersecurity for preventing future attacks.
