The second unit of the 1320MW Sahiwal Coal Power Plant in Pakistan has been completed and become operational.

Located in the Punjab province of the country, the second unit has a capacity of 660MW.

One of the first major initiatives of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the project has been completed at a cost of PKR180bn ($1.7bn), reported Pakistantoday.com.pk.

The project was signed in April 2015 and was expected to be completed by December this year. These two units will together provide 1,320MW power to the national grid.

This project is expected to reduce power deficit by 25%, reported Nation.com.pk.

The first unit was inaugurated by Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in May this year.
