Semirara Mining & Power intends to set-up coal-fired power plants totalling 1,100MW in the Philippines over the next three to four years.
The Philippines-based company said that planning has started for the 700MW project.

Reuters cited Semirara CEO Isidro Consunji as saying that commissioning of a 300MW power plant being built in the main island of Luzon will be completed later in the year.
These projects are in-line with the firm’s initiatives to expand its power generation portfolio.
The coal mining giant will supply the fuel required for the projects.
Phillipines, which is presently trying to meet the country’s growing power demands, wants to push the construction of dozens of coal-fired facilities currently in development.

Semirara recently stopped operations at a mine in central Philippines following a landslide. The company intends to start a second coal mine in the same region, which is expected to reach full capacity by next year.
The firm is also planning to develop a third coal mine, reports Reuters.
