SgurrEnergy has been awarded a construction and operational monitoring contract for the 396MW Merkur offshore windfarm in the German North Sea.

The contract comprises the monitoring of construction and the financial and operational performance of the project, in order to regularly update project lenders throughout the initial stages and for the first ten years of operation.

Last year, Wood Group subsidiary SgurrEnergy was appointed the technical adviser for a consortium of international lenders to support the project. This contract will see SgurrEnergy support the £1.6bn billion Merkur Offshore project until 2028.

SgurrEnergy has already supplied independent technical due diligence, and advised lenders on permitting and environmental considerations, civil and electrical design, as well as project delivery and energy yield predictions.

Offshore construction works will begin early next year and consist of 66 GE Haliade 6MW wind turbines, which is the first commercial deployment of this technology in Europe, and the largest in the world.

SgurrEnergy’s project manager, Kevin Murphy, said: “From the first large scale deployment of the GE Haliade 6MW wind turbine to the innovative contracting strategy, this is a milestone project for the European offshore wind industry and we are delighted to continue our support for a further 12 years of construction and operational monitoring.

We are proud to be involved in this notable offshore development and look forward to providing our expertise throughout Merkur’s construction and operation”.

SgurrEnergy has been involved in the recent financing of several German offshore windfarms, such as Gode Wind II, Nordergrunde, Butendiek, Veja Mate, Nordsee One, and Borkum West II.
