Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has secured a contract from Parque Eólico Arauco SAPEM to deliver 28 turbines for Phase III and IV of the Arauco wind complex.

Currently being developed in the province of La Rioja, western Argentina, the project will generate a total of 97MW through the G132-3.465MW turbines.

Delivery is scheduled to be completed by Q2, 2018, while commissioning is expected to take place between Q4 of that year and Q1 of 2019.

Siemens Gamesa renewable energy Latin America CEO José Miranda said: “This project falls under the scope of the RenovAr 1.5 project launched by the Argentine Government in 2016 to support investment in the renewable energy sector.

"The country has set itself the target of meeting 8% of demand for electricity from renewable sources in 2017."

According to Arauco SAPEM, the contract will see the integration of Spain-made nacelles with turbine towers that are locally produced in Argentina. It will also help create new manufacturing jobs in Argentina.
