German technology giant Siemens has won an order to deliver turbines and generator for the 400MW Bibiyana South combined cycle power plant in Bangladesh.
The firm is expected to deliver one SGT5-4000F gas turbine, an SST-3000 steam turbine and a model SGen-2000H generator for the single-shaft facility, which will primarily use natural-gas as its fuel.

Isolux Corsan has been appointed as the developer for the power plant by the state-owned operator Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).
In addition to the equipment, Siemens will also be delivering associated auxiliary systems and the electrical and I&C systems for the power plant.
Commissioning of the power generating facility is expected to be done in May 2018. The Bibiyana South facility is the eight project for Siemens in the Asian country.

Bangladeshi projects, for which Siemens’ will be delivering equipment, include Sirajganj Phase I and II, Ashuganj, Ashuganj South, Ashuganj North, Shikalbaha and Ghorashal power plants.
The projects, once commissioned, will have a combined power output of around 2.5GW and will add to the current national power plant capacity of approximately 11.5GW.
Bangladesh suffers from power crisis with around 50% of its residents having access to electrical energy.
Siemens has also recently won turbine orders totalling 126MW for three onshore wind power projects in Scotland.
