Siemens has received turbine delivery contract from a Mainstream Renewable Power-led consortium for three wind projects in the province of Northern Cape, South Africa.
Under the deal, Siemens is to deliver 157 of its 2.3MW wind turbines for the Khobab, Loeriesfontein 2 and Noupoort wind projects.

The three wind projects will be able to generate 360MW of renewable power when commissioned.
Both the Khobab wind farm and the Loeriesfontein 2 wind farm are located in the Namakwa District Municipality and have 140MW capacity each.
The 80MW Noupoort wind farm is a part of the Umsobomvu Local Municipality.
The company has also signed another agreement for it to be responsible for service and maintenance of the turbines for ten years.

By GlobalDataThe Siemens SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines for the power plants come with a rotor diameter of 108m and have towers with hub height of 99.5m, which will be primarily sourced from South Africa.
Siemens is expected to initiate turbine installations from August 2015, following which commissioning of the three wind farms have been planned to start from early 2016 to 2017.
Siemens wind power and renewables division CEO Markus Tacke said: "This order also clearly demonstrates that, with its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP), South Africa is on a successful path for achieving the governments stated goal of installing 3,725MW of renewable energy capacity."
