Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners has began construction at the Tenaska Westmoreland Generating Station, a 925MW natural gas-fuelled power plant near Smithton in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
Construction is expected to be completed by 2018 and the plant will be able to power approximately 925,000 homes in the PJM Interconnection market, which coordinates the delivery of power across13 eastern states, including the District of Columbia.

Pennsylvania's secretary of community and economic development Dennis Davin said: “Natural gas production is an important industry in Pennsylvania and is one that not only creates direct employment but also stimulates the economy and fosters additional jobs through its support of related, downstream businesses."
Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners' vice-chairman and CEO Jerry Crouse said: “Tenaska has a nearly 30-year reputation for strong power projects, which fit the needs of the market.
“We are pleased to continue that tradition with Tenaska Westmoreland.”
This is the 18th project financed and constructed by Tenaska. The company has developed approximately 10,000 MW of natural gas-fueled and renewable power projects since its establishment in 1987.

Black & Veatch has been appointed as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project while Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems will supply two natural gas turbines.
