UK-based Cyan has received a smart metering contract from telecommunications contractor Micromodje in Iran.

Under the £67,000 worth initial purchase order, the company will involve in the implementation of the 2,000-unit smart metering in the country.

The company will supply the CyLec advanced metering infrastructure, which will be fitted into street traffic cameras in the country.

According to the company, the order was placed after international sanctions were lifted on Iran in January.

"Cyan’s capability has been optimised for emerging regions, enabling these markets to address a number of challenges driven by rapid growth and the demand for energy."

Cyan executive chairman John Cronin said: "The combined Cyan team from India and the UK exceeded the customer’s expectations by deploying the proof of concept pilot in just two days.

"The order from Micromodje shows its confidence in Cyan’s enabling technology and we look forward to working with a highly experienced system integrator to deliver smart metering technology, enhancing the quality of service for energy utilities and customers in Iran."

The firm has already delivered the first units, which were successfully deployed to measure the energy consumption of the street traffic cameras.

Cyan HES was installed on a Micromodje server in the country, which is offering meter readings and the ability to connect or disconnect supply.

Both firms have also started negotiations on a larger purchase order for smart electricity metering solutions to be deployed within the country.

Micromodje managing director Goldouzia said: "Cyan’s capability has been optimised for emerging regions, enabling these markets to address a number of challenges driven by rapid growth and the demand for energy."

Cyan noted that the solution will be demonstrated to government officials as part of the Victory Day of the Iranian Revolution celebrations on 11 February in Tehran.
