A new report from WindEurope has projected that wind energy has potential to power 30% of Europe by 2030.
According to the new ‘Scenarios for 2030’ report, if around 50% of the EU’s existing windpower projects are extended or repowered, Europe’s windpower capacity could reach a total of 323GW.

The report also suggested that Europe could help meet the projections by focusing on long-term revenue stability, making significant progress on the integration of variable renewables, and developing clear policy commitments on electrification.
As per the new report, Germany, France, and the UK have the potential for the highest installed capacity, with 85GW, 43GW, and 38GW respectively.
It is also predicted that France will surpass the UK and Spain in the future in response to policies currently being put in place by the new government.
Denmark, Ireland, Estonia, and the Netherlands could also be generating more than 50% of their electricity from wind by 2030, which is expected to help offset 382t of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

By GlobalDataWindEurope has also released its new ‘Outlook to 2020’ report, which has estimated that Europe could install an average of 12.6GW of windpower annually up to 2020, enabling the continent to produce a total of 204GW.
Windpower is also set to be Europe’s biggest renewable energy source, fulfilling 16.5% of Europe’s electricity demand by the same period.
