Wärtsilä has secured a deal to provide engineering and equipment for two base load power plants in Iran.

These proposed plants will be operated by Iranian energy companies Baran Niroo Beshel and Tamin Niroo Saam.

Wärtsilä will supply the Baran Niroo Beshel plant with three 34SG engines, which will have a combined output of 29MW. The Tamin Niroo Saam plant will receive two Wärtsilä 34SG engines with a total output of 19MW.

Once completed, the plants will be able to jointly serve around 100,000 households. Deliveries of the Wärtsilä gensets are expected to take place during Q3, 2017.

So far, Wärtsilä has a total of 7GW generation capacity in the Middle East and more than 63GW capacity in 176 countries worldwide.

Last month, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Southern Power to develop two 450MW US-based flexible gas power plant projects. Southern Power will lead project development, while Wärtsilä will provide technical and commercial support.
