US-based NTE Energy has commenced work to connect a 500MW natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant at Reidsville in North Carolina to the regional transmission system.
The work is being carried out under a large generator interconnection agreement (LGIA) signed with Duke Energy.

To be NTE Energy’s second power plant in North Carolina, the new Reidsville Energy Center is expected to receive electric backfeed by 2019.
NTE Energy Carolinas SVP Mike Green said: “We appreciate Duke Energy Carolina’s assistance in reaching an agreement to allow this important energy resource to interconnect with the regional transmission grid.
“We look forward to executing the interconnection upgrades for Reidsville and continue bringing our lower cost and environmentally responsible power supply to our customers throughout North and South Carolina.”
NTE Energy plans to invest more than $500m to develop the Reidsville Energy Center, which will be able to power around 450,000 homes upon completion.
