US renewable energy company Origis Energy has closed financing of more than $530m with the global Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) for two solar projects in the US.
The 150MWac Wheatland solar project in Knox County, in the US state of Indiana, is due for completion in the first half of 2026.
The project, backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA) with CenterPoint Energy, is part of Origis Energy’s broader strategy to develop renewable energy and decarbonisation solutions.
Origis Energy CEO Vikas Anand stated: “Origis Energy is excited to have achieved this financing milestone on Wheatland Solar with MUFG and other financing partners. We continue to see unprecedented growth in demand for electricity and look forward to completing this project for CenterPoint and its customers.”
The financing package also supports the Optimist Solar + Storage project in Clay County, Mississippi, which will provide 200 megawatts alternating current (MWac) of solar power and 50MW 4HR (four hours) of energy storage.
To be operational by early 2026, the Optimist project is supported by a PPA with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The project had its portion of the MUFG deal closed in late 2024.

MUFG acted as coordinating lead arranger, green loan coordinator and administrative agent for the transaction.
The syndicate of participating banks comprised Associated Bank, CoBank, National Bank of Canada and NatWest as joint lead arrangers, with Amalgamated Bank and Siemens Financial Services participating as lenders.
MUFG project finance Americas team managing director Patrick Klein stated: “Supporting our clients’ development projects and business goals is one of the tenets of our bank. We relish the opportunity to be a part of the Optimist and Wheatland projects that will provide clean and affordable power while creating jobs and economic opportunities in the region.”
Legal representation for the Wheatland transaction was provided by Latham & Watkins for Origis Energy, with Taft Stettinius as local counsel. MUFG’s legal counsel was Milbank, with Dentons fulfilling the role of local counsel.
In January 2025, Origis secured a $415m financing package for the Swift Air solar project in Ector County, Texas.
