Platte River Power Authority has signed an agreement to purchase 150MW of windpower from the Roundhouse project, a new windfarm located less than 20 miles north of the firm’s Rawhide Energy Station.
Platte River Power Authority is a non-profit utility owned and controlled by Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, which will receive the generated power.

Enyo Renewable Energy’s unit Roundhouse Renewable Energy will build the Roundhouse project, which will feature up to 75 wind turbines across 14,000 acres of land.
Transmission capacity will also be provided, linking the farm to Platte River’s transmission system at the Rawhide station. The addition will almost triple Platte River’s current output from wind.
Platte River Power Authority CEO Jason Frisbie said: “Platte River took a giant leap today to further diversify the energy portfolio serving northern Colorado.
“With this acquisition, we will dramatically increase our non-carbon energy footprint on behalf of our municipalities and northern Colorado residents.”

“This project will become a tremendous renewable energy resource for Platte River.”
More than 30% of the power currently supplied to Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland comes through hydro, wind and solar. With the addition of 150MW of windpower in late 2020, Platte River aims to have a 48% carbon-free energy portfolio.
