Energy company RWE has signed a ten-year corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with five independent co-operatives in the UK.

The contract will supply up to 53 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually to more than 400 locations across the country from 1 April 2025.

The five co-operatives that have signed the agreement are Lincolnshire Co-op, Scotmid Co-op, East of England Co-op, Southern Co-op and Central Co-op.

The green electricity will be used to power facilities such as retail outlets, funeral services and travel agencies.

It is expected to generate substantial savings for the five co-operatives over the life of the contract and reduce their carbon footprint.

The green electricity will be sourced from the London Array offshore wind farm, located in the outer Thames Estuary. The wind farm has a total installed capacity of 630MW and features 175 wind turbines.

RWE is responsible for operating the London Array, which is owned by a consortium of RWE, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Greencoat UK Wind and Masdar Energy UK.

The wind farm will play a key role in supporting the renewable energy needs of the UK co-operatives.

In March 2025, Telehouse signed a ten-year PPA with RWE to procure power from the London Array offshore wind farm.

The deal will supply a significant quantity of renewable energy to Telehouse’s London Docklands campus, the most interconnected data centre hub in Europe, through to the end of 2035.
