Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has been selected by Danish energy company Ørsted to supply wind turbines for offshore project Hornsea Project Two in the UK.

As per the agreement, SGRE will deliver and install its SG 8.0-167 DD turbines with power boost functionality at the facility.

The turbines will have the capacity to generate 1,386MW of renewable energy.

With a span of 462km2, Hornsea Project Two is reported to be one of the world’s largest windfarms and is expected to be completed by 2022.

SGRE Offshore CEO Andreas Nauen said: “We are very pleased that Ørsted has placed its trust in Siemens Gamesa once again.

“Hornsea Project Two will be a benchmark in Europe, not only on account of its size but also its technology. Siemens Gamesa will install the newest model from its offshore platform at this facility.

SGRE intends to produce nacelles at its new facility in Cuxhaven, Germany, and manufacture the majority of the blades at its Hull factory in the UK.

Towers for the project will be partly sourced from UK-based suppliers.

SGRE and Ørsted have already worked together on several offshore projects, including Hornsea Project One, the London Array, Race Bank, West of Duddon Sands, and Westermost Rough in the UK.
