Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has secured an order from Danish firm Eurowind Energy for Denmark’s onshore windfarm project Thorup-Sletten.
Located in the north-west of Aggersund bridge in Northwestern Jutland, the Thorup-Sletten project will be the largest in the country.
Siemens Gamesa will supply 18 units of the 4.3MW model with 130m rotors for the project. With a total capacity of 77MW, the electricity generated by the turbines will be sufficient to power approximately 65,000 households.
Installation works at the site is expected to begin later this year in October.
Eurowind Energy CEO Jens Rasmussen said: “We are proud of being the developer behind the largest onshore project in Denmark. This is more proof that onshore wind should continue to be an important part of the energy mix to keep Denmark at the forefront when it comes to wind energy.
“We have chosen Siemens Gamesa because we looked around in the market to find a turbine that is both a great match for these very windy conditions and can deliver high product quality and a highly competitive price.

By GlobalData“The upgrade of the turbine from 3.6 to 4.3MW together with the 130 metres rotor was important to get the lowest cost per KWh produced.”
Additionally, Siemens Gamesa will maintain the wind farm for a period of 20 years via a long-term service programme made specifically for Eurowind.
Siemens Gamesa North Europe and Middle East Onshore Business Unit CEO Steven Pryor said: “Of course it means a lot to us to win this bid from Eurowind and to be able to continue driving the transformation to renewables in Denmark.
“We are constantly working to offer innovation, technology and solutions tailored to the needs of the individual customer.”
