Renewable energy company Sungrow has entered into two agreements to deliver battery energy storage systems (BESS) in South Africa and Romania.
In South Africa, Sungrow will supply 1,155MW-hours (MWh) of commercial and industrial (C&I) BESS through its distribution partner, Herholdt’s Group.

The projects will be deployed in phases at various sites across the country, with a focus on supporting C&I operations.
The systems are intended to improve power reliability and help integrate renewable energy sources for businesses in South Africa.
Sungrow sub-Saharan Africa president Nigel said: “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Herholdt’s Group as we continue to grow the C&I energy storage market in South Africa.
“This agreement reflects our shared confidence in the long-term potential of the C&I segment, as well as strong recognition of Sungrow’s solutions in delivering reliable and scalable energy storage for local applications.”
In Romania, Sungrow has formed a partnership with ENEVO Group for projects totalling 1GW-hour (GWh) of battery energy storage capacity.
The first phase involves 440MWh scheduled for delivery by December 2026, followed by an additional 560MWh.
These installations will be implemented at multiple locations across Romania and will use Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled BESS, which is designed for large-scale grid support and renewable integration.
ENEVO Group CTO and co-founder Radu Brașoveanu said: “Together we are accelerating the integration of BESS with renewable generation while advancing ENEVO’s ambition to become a leading EPC [engineering, procurement and construction] contractor for large-scale battery storage systems in the region.”
The PowerTitan series has been implemented in a variety of utility-scale projects throughout the region, including in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
Last month, Sungrow invested €230m ($264.79m) to set up its first manufacturing facility in Europe, aiming to support and strengthen the continent’s clean energy manufacturing ecosystem.
