Renewable energy company Zelestra has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft for solar projects in Spain with a total capacity of 95.7MW AC.
Under the contract, Microsoft will buy the clean energy generated by Zelestra’s Escatrón II and Fuendetodos II solar projects, which are currently under construction in Zaragoza, Aragón.

Zelestra and Microsoft are also collaborating on a community benefits initiative with Aragón-based non-profit organisation ECODES for the implementation of direct impact programmes throughout the region.
The initiative aims to integrate clean energy generation with direct social and environmental investment in the Aragón region.
ECODES will also oversee grant-making activities to back community-led sustainability initiatives, focusing especially on populations deemed vulnerable.

Zelestra said this initiative aligns with its global strategy, known as the 3 Es (education, energy, and environment), which is centred on social investment.
It also supports Microsoft’s carbon-negative objectives and its Datacenter Community Pledge, which commits to build and operate digital infrastructure that tackles societal challenges and creates lasting benefits for local communities.
Zelestra chief stakeholder and sustainability officer Scarlett Alvarez Uzcategui said: ”This progressive collaboration with ECODES and Microsoft aligns perfectly with our commitment to deliver meaningful, positive impact in the communities where we operate.

Zelestra is a vertically integrated company that develops, commercialises, constructs, and operates large-scale renewable energy projects.
The company’s global portfolio comprises approximately 32GW of carbon-free projects across six key growth markets: the US, Germany, Spain, Italy, Cental/South America, and India.
Of this capacity, 6.8GW is contracted with customers and is either operational, under construction, or in the preconstruction stages.
In May this year, Zelestra entered an agreement with Sungrow, marking a milestone for one of the largest battery energy storage systems in South America.
