Energy Minister Chris Bowen said it would take 71 new small nuclear reactors to replace the 21GW of coal-fired power currently in the country’s electricity mix.
The 1.5GW solar project will supply energy for 160,000 UAE homes when completed.
Once built, the solar portfolio is expected to generate enough clean energy to power more than 90,000 Irish homes.
Expected to power nearly 2,000 Spanish homes, the demo project using SATH technology is the first in the country.
